FIELD: ice-breaking equipment for ice jam prevention in front of bridges during river freeze-up and ice-drift periods.
SUBSTANCE: device is made as ice-breaking structure installed on bridge piers and located upstream bridge. Upper structure part arranged above water level is inclined towards ice moving to bridge. Lover structure part located under water level has reverse inclination direction to break ice by applying bending and shear deformation to ice. To adjust structure location along pier height in accordance with river water level change structure is connected to bridge pier by slidable connection. Slidable connection admits structure movement only in vertical direction. Structure has ice cutting blades connected to structure sides to assist ice pieces in passing between bridge piers. Ice cutting blades are made as plates. Plate edges contacting with ice are inclined to horizon.
EFFECT: increased ice-cutting efficiency.
