FIELD: railway transport; measuring facilities.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for automatically checking condition of axle boxes of railway vehicles. Proposed method includes measuring of shift of axle box relative to labyrinth ring and revealing state of wheelset 1. Shift of axle box is measured by optical rangefinders 4, 6 at movement of wheelset by comparing two measured linear profiles of wheel with known profiles of standard wheelset. Condition of wheelset axle box is determined basing on comparison. Used as one of measured profiles is outer profile of wheel at axle box level, and as other one, profile of inner side of wheel at level between rail and wheelset axle.

EFFECT: reliable automatic monitoring of condition of wheelset axle boxes.
