FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed device designed for protecting insulation of dc and ac high-voltage stations and substations against atmospheric, switching, and other surges has at least one varistor unit mounted in a spaced relation to form gas outlet passage in insulating cylinder disposed in cylindrical insulating housing and offset relative to center line of the latter. Varistor unit is mounted at least at bottom on support that has segment secured on ring which is locked in position within insulating cylinder. Surface area of segment is smaller than that of semicircle. Segment thickness is 5 to 10% of inner diameter of insulating cylinder.
EFFECT: enhanced explosion safety and operating reliability, reduced metal input, simplified assembly process.
