FIELD: ferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to the field of ferrous metallurgy, in particular, to the steel used at production of knives, intended for a cutting of metal scrap. The offered steel contains (in mass %): carbon - 0.5-0.6; manganese - 1.6-1.8; silicon - 1.2-1.3; chromium - 1.2-1.4; molybdenum - 0.25-0.40; vanadium - 0.12-0.20; nitrogen - 0.012-0.020; aluminum -0.015-0.035; iron - the rest. At that in the capacity of impurities the steel may contain sulfur - no more than 0.020, phosphorus - no more than 0.020. The technical result of the invention is an increased complex of the steel physical-mechanical properties and the operational stability of the shears produced out of it.
