FIELD: electrochemistry; devices used for starting internal combustion engines of vehicles and for power units continuously running in floating mode.
SUBSTANCE: proposed bank of double-layer electrochemical capacitors has housing, positive and negative current leads, and at least two electrical capacitors of which each one has case, water electrolyte, two electrodes of which at least one is nonpolarized and other, polarized and primarily made of activated carbon material. Novelty is that capacitor bank is provided with device for compressing capacitors disposed in one or more rows and case of each capacitor is prismatic in shape and made of polymeric material. Nonpolarized electrode of each capacitor mainly has material electrochemically convertible to operate in water electrolyte medium. Method for using above-characterized electrochemical capacitor is also proposed.
EFFECT: enhanced specific energy and in-service reliability, provision for equalizing voltage among bank capacitors to enhance self-discharge of bank.
