FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of operation of compression ignition internal combustion engine primary fuel of which contains methanol. Invention makes it possible to convert primary methanol fuel on board the vehicle into fuel containing dimethyl ether for operation of compression ignition internal combustion engine. Proposed method of operation of engine fuel containing dimethyl ether obtained at conversion of primary methanol fuel includes compression of primary methanol fuel in its liquid form to final fuel injection pressure, heating of compressed primary fuel by heat of engine exhaust gases, introduction and conversion of primary fuel at injection temperature and pressure into fuel containing dimethyl ether owing to contact with methanol dehydration catalyst and injection of fuel containing dimethyl ether at pressure and temperature of injection into engine.
EFFECT: facilitated charging and storing of fuel in vehicles.
