FIELD: experimental studies in thermal physics concerning nuclear power stations, their industrial use and research practice in various heat runs.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method can be intended for investigating mechanisms of emergency situations and thermomechanical destruction of nuclear reactor fuel channels for which purpose use is made of heater produced from self-propagating high-temperature fusion mixtures in the form of thermal cartridge whose high-temperature combustion products heat channel to desired temperature at adjustable rate within desired medium in the course of self-propagating high-temperature fusion. Such method for heating fuel channels makes it possible to solve a comprehensive range of problems concerned with investigations of their thermomechanical destruction due to ability of controlling heating process, simple design and facilitated manufacture of thermal cartridge, reduced quantity of required equipment and power, simplified heating process.
EFFECT: enhanced economic efficiency, reduced material and power requirement, and reduced labor consumption.
