FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in automobiles and in systems of orientation of artificial earth satellites. According to invention, flywheel with variable moment of inertia contains hollows chamber in form of truncated cone filled with working medium. Device employs additionally first and second control ac electromagnets, control unit first and second outputs of which are connected, respectively, with first and second control ac electromagnets, and working medium position sensor whose output is connected with control unit by feedback. Inner surface of hollow chamber is made in form of alternating coaxial truncated cones whose vertices are pointed in turn to smaller and larger bases of chamber. First cone at smaller base of chamber is pointed with its vertex to larger base, and first cone at larger base, to smaller base. Diameters of cones increase and height decreases in direction from smaller base to larger base.
EFFECT: possibility of control flywheel inertia moment within wide range irrespective of speed of rotation, reduced power consumption in operation.
