ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED KNEE JOINT PROSTHESIS, PROSTHESIS UNIT AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING ELECTRONIC JOINT PROSTHESIS ROTATION Russian patent published in 2005 - IPC

Abstract RU 2266722 C2

FIELD: medical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: device has magnet and magnetic rheological liquid changing knee joint cushioning moment on from transparent flexible material fillable in operation course with transparent ferromagnetic liquid. It has a set of rotors manufactured rotatable about longitudinal knee joint prosthesis axis, a set of stators spread alternatingly with said rotors for forming spaces between them. Magnetic rheological liquid is in spaces between said rotors and stators and the changeable knee joint cushioning moment is carried out as a result of magnetic rheological liquid shift caused by relative rotation between said rotors and stators during knee joint rotation between said rotors and stators during knee joint rotation. Prosthesis unit has knee joint prosthesis, recess for stump having mechanical link with the knee joint prosthesis. The recess is adopted for receiving retained extremity of human being having one leg failing, crural prosthesis part, shin part being in mechanical link with knee joint prosthesis. Prosthesis foot is in mechanical link with crural prosthesis part. The knee joint prosthesis is knee joint prosthesis described above. Method for controlling electronic knee joint prosthesis rotation having a set of alternatingly spread magnetically soft rotors, magnetically soft stators and magnetic rheological liquid in a set of spaces between said rotors and stators including application magnetic field passing over rotors, stators and magnetic rheological liquid and adjusting magnetic field for varying magnetic rheological liquid viscosity to achieve variable rotation resistance to twisting for controlling knee joint prosthesis flexure and extension.

EFFECT: prolonged service life; operation reliability.
