FIELD: processes for applying wear resistant coatings onto cutting tools, possibly in metal working.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum-plasma method for applying wear -resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or carbonitride containing silicon is realized at using in addition aluminum as alloying component. Coating is applied by means of two arranged mutually opposite cathodes of alloy on base of titanium and silicon and by means of built-up cathode made of alloy on base of titanium and aluminum and arranged between said two cathodes.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of cutting tool due to increased adhesion strength, lowered exfoliation factor of coating and high residual compression stresses in coating.
