FIELD: processes for applying wear-resistant coatings onto cutting tools, possibly at working metals.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum-plasma method for applying wear- resistant coating on base of titanium carbide or carbonitride containing aluminum is realized with use of silicon as alloying component. Coating is applied by means of two arranged mutually opposite built-up cathodes containing titanium and aluminum with use of cathode made of alloy on base of titanium and silicon and arranged between above mentioned cathodes.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of cutting tool due to improved hardness and high compression stresses in coatings.
