FIELD: metal working, namely processes for applying wear-resistant coatings onto cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: wear-resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or carbonitride containing aluminum and iron as alloying component is applied by vacuum-plasma deposition process. Said process is realized by means of two built-up cathodes arranged mutually opposite and containing titanium and aluminum with use of third built-up cathode arranged between said two cathodes and containing titanium and iron.
EFFECT: improved adhesion strength of coating, enhanced effectiveness of cutting tool with such coating.
