FIELD: processes for applying wear resistant coatings on cutting tools, possibly in metal working.
SUBSTANCE: vacuum-plasma method of applying wear resistant coating on base of titanium nitride or carbonitride containing silicon is realized at using iron as additional alloying component. Coating is applied by means of two arranged mutually opposite cathodes of alloy of titanium and silicon and arranged between them built-up cathode of alloy on base of titanium and iron.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of cutting tool due to increased adhesion strength, lowered coating exfoliation factor and high residual compression stresses in coating.
