FIELD: carbon materials.
SUBSTANCE: invention is dealing with manufacture of carbon blocks, in particular anodes suitable for production of aluminum via electrolysis according to Hall-Heroult process. Method of invention comprises controlling granulometric composition of carbon aggregate including separation of an arbitrary initial carbon aggregate AC into first fraction F1 composed of grains with dimensions less than X and second fraction F2 composed of grains with dimensions equal to or exceeding X, where X varies between 0.2 and 2 mm. First fraction F1 and part P1 of the second fraction F2 are reduced in such a way as to obtain powder F containing controlled proportion of superdispersed grains. The rest P2 of fraction F2 and aforesaid powder are mixed in proportions allowing manufacture of crude carbon blocks with ratio Gr/S ≥ 4 between portion of PGr grains with grain size above 0.3 mm and portion of PS grains with grain size between 30 μm and 0.3 mm. Carbon blocks are obtained via hot mixing of final carbon aggregate with resin-based binder followed by molding and firing resulting paste. Density of fired carbon blocks is above 1.55 g/cm3.
