FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: ball pivot comprises housing, ball pin, insert interposed between them, and locking device that locks the insert. The insert is composed of two members. The bottom member is made of a part of spherical shell. The top member is made of a part of spherical surface that is mating to the sphere of the ball pin and cylinder from the outer side of the insert. The insert has the bearing surface which is in a contact with the locking device made of a ring. The ring represents the load-bearing member that carries the loadings that cause the pin to be pulled out the housing. There is a space between the top and the bottom members of the insert. Before assembling, the bearing surface of the insert project outside of the bearing surface of the housing by the distance that does not exceed the space between the insert members. In assembling the ball pivot, the ball head is set in the spherical socket of the insert with opening, is inserted in the housing, and is locked against the axial movement. The inner stack of the pivot is preliminary pressed by a load that does not exceed the yield strength of the insert material. The insert and the ring are locked inside the housing by beading or radial or axial reducing of the top section of the housing.
