SPIRAL SILENCER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC F01N1/12

Abstract RU 2272917 C2

FIELD: manufacture of engines; internal combustion engine exhaust passages.

SUBSTANCE: proposed silencer has body made from sheet of material twisted in form of spiral and provided with projections on some areas of surface. Edges of sheets are so connected that closed curvilinear space is formed between turns. Body has central hole and blanked-off hole is provided in area of external last turn. Sound-proof partition located in central hole divides it into parts. Turn-to-turn closed space of body is divided by sound-proof partitions into parts in such way that labyrinth is formed in body and exhaust gases first move in direction from central hole and then backward to central hole. Sound-proof partition may be mounted in central hole by means of tube having radial holes for communication with closed space of body.

EFFECT: reduced diameter of silencer.
