FIELD: manufacture of engines.

SUBSTANCE: proposed method of conversion of thermal energy into mechanical energy in internal combustion engines includes combustion of fuel in compressed air; combustion products do mechanical work while expanding; ratio between degree of air compression and degree of expansion of exhaust gases is calculated by the following formula: where εexp is degree of expansion of exhaust gases; εcomp is degree of compression of air; Tcomb is combustion temperature of fuel; γ=Cisobaric/Cisochoric, where Cisobaric is isobaric heat capacity of gases and Cisochoric is isochoric heat capacity of gases. After complete ignition, some amount of water shall be injected into flame.

EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of internal combustion engine for given combustion temperature.
