FIELD: tobacco industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods concerning decreasing the content of nitrosamines, such as N'-nitrosonornicotine, 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone, N'-nitrosoanatabine and N'-nitrosoanabasine, and decreasing the level of alkaloids in tobacco. Methods involve mixing tobacco with a solvent (for example, with water and/or other compounds) for preparing a soluble fraction. A soluble fraction comprises the initial total level of tobacco-specific nitrosamines or alkaloids per 1 g of a soluble fraction. A soluble fraction is contacted with material absorbing nitrosamines and alkaloids to provide the final mass percent content of tobacco-specific nitrosamines per 1 g of indicated soluble fraction at least by about 20% less and that of alkaloids by 10% less as the indicated initial total level of tobacco-specific nitrosamines and alkaloids per 1 g of a soluble fraction. Also, invention describes tobacco goods comprising a soluble fraction with the diminished content of tobacco-specific nitrosamines or alkaloids obtained by abovementioned methods. Invention provides improving methods for lowering the content of nitrosamines or alkaloids and improvement of tobacco quality.
