FIELD: mechanical engineering; welding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to resistance flash-butt welding and it can be used for welding articles with large cross section. Flash-off cycle includes at least two additional stages and main stages. Said stages come to stopping of moving head in process of flashing off and subsequent restoring of its feed. At additional stages, moving head is stopped when flashing current value rises to 0.3-0.5 of current value at short-circuiting of weldable parts. Movement of moving head is restored when flashing off current at stopping drops to 0.1 - 0.2 of current value at short-circuiting of weldable parts. At main stages moving head is stopped when flashing off current rises to 0.7-0.9 of current value at short-circuiting of weldable parts. When flashing off current in process of stopping drops to value corresponding to extreme of power in spark gap, feed of moving heat is restored. Each main stage is started from additional stage.
EFFECT: improved quality of weld seam owing to optimization of heating of weldable parts.
