FIELD: equipment for cleaning of surfaces such as hard floors.

SUBSTANCE: apparatus has casing, elongated brush unit positioned for rotation around longitudinal axis and extending transverse to casing for contacting with surface to be cleaned, endless strip adapted for cleaning said surface and passing from lower side of casing, and means responsive to motion. The latter has friction engagement device adapted for engagement with surface to be cleaned and moving in opposite first and second directions in response to motion of apparatus in first and second opposite directions relative to surface to be cleaned. Motion of friction engagement device is transmitted to cleaning strip with the result that displacement of apparatus in first direction causes cleaning strip to be arranged in first orientation relative to casing so that during employment of apparatus substantially endless edge of strip is in contact with surface under cleaning process, and displacement of apparatus in second direction causes arrangement of cleaning strip in second orientation relative to casing so that during operation cleaning strip is lifted over surface under cleaning process.

EFFECT: simplified construction, increased efficiency and reduced wear of flexible cleaning strip.
