FIELD: inorganic compounds technologies.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processes of producing coagulants based on basic aluminum chlorides. Proposed coagulant can be used to treat natural waters in order to provide technical- and drinking-destination water and also to treat industrial and domestic waste waters to remove suspended impurities, petroleum derivatives, and other contaminants. Process according to invention consists in that aluminum-containing alloy is treated with aqueous hydrochloric acid solution. More specifically, 35% aqueous hydrochloric acid solution is dispensed into reactor filled with aluminum-containing alloy granules contained in water layer while maintaining constant temperature in the range 40-45°C inside reactor by controlling hydrochloric acid supply until aluminum chloride is formed. The latter is then subjected to hydrolysis at 70-90°C to produce desired product with molar ratio Cl-/Al3+ equal to 0.46-0.52. Invention allows coagulant to be obtained under mild conditions in tightly sealed reactor with reaction temperature control and flushing of reactor with inert gas to ensure process safety. Thus obtained coagulant exhibits highest activity in aluminum hydroxychloride series.

EFFECT: enhanced coagulation activity of product and improved safety of process.
