FIELD: hydrogen production from water at nuclear power stations using thermoelectrochemical generators.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for operating power installation that has a number of TECGs filled with solid ceramic electrolytes including proton-conducting solid electrolyte and hydrogen ion conducting solid electrolyte whose surfaces are covered with palladium base porous electrode coatings; water supply, separation, hydrogen and oxygen discharge system; as well as additional TECG of Na-Na electrochemical system using sodium beta-alumina base sodium-ion conducting solid electrolyte whose surface is covered with porous electrode coating includes following procedures: mentioned TECGs are placed in compartment filled with water or steam and fissionable material U235 or its oxides followed by moving this compartment to reactor core and closing electrodes through external load to produce electric current through these electrodes at the same time separating water decomposition products using ionizing radiation; in the process heat liberated in compartment in the course of nuclear fission and electric power generation is conveyed to additional TECG of Na-Na electrochemical system. Pending operation, fissionable material U235 or its oxides are placed in anode cavity of additional TECG.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of method for producing hydrogen from water using ionized radiation energy and heat liberated in the course of power generation.
