FIELD: electrolytic production of aluminum; protection of wettable coat of hearth (cathode) of aluminum electrolyzer against oxidation at roasting and starting.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes using temporary gas-tight protective layers made from sheet material retaining gas-tightness over entire roasting temperature range; its melting point is above maximum roasting temperature; this layer is bonded to coat with the aid of adhesive composition chemically interacting with oxidizing gases or with electrolyte.
EFFECT: retaining of quality of protective coat at roasting and starting due to protection of coat components against oxidation at high temperature and interaction with electrolyte.
