FIELD: agriculture and forestry, in particular, agroameliorative evaluation of construction of forest strips and other wind barriers.

SUBSTANCE: method involves taking photos of object to be investigated against contrasting background in direction opposite to sun at an angle of 90 deg to direction of object under investigation in the morning or evening hours; introducing image into computer, said image being black-and-white and being made in the form of graphic file or being produced by scanning from colored negative or print; framing plot under investigation; plotting histogram of tones in black-and-white spectrum of image under investigation; separating three regions in black, white and transition gray parts of spectrum and determining percentage content of tones in separated regions, with content of gray tones being distributed proportionally to parts of black and white colors; judging optical density from total share of black color and share of gray color proportional thereto; judging extent of openwork pattern from total share of white color and share of gray color proportional thereto.

EFFECT: increased precision in determining optical density of wind barrier and extent of openwork pattern of forest strips.
