FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy; equipment for production of aluminum by electrolysis of the fused salts.
SUBSTANCE: the invention is pertaining to production of aluminum by electrolysis of fused salts, in particular, to the design of the cathode section of the aluminum electrolyzer and is aimed at the upgrade of the design of the aluminum electrolyzer the hearth section, which represents the combination of the carbon unit and the current conducting cathode rod. In the lower part of the steel current conducting cathode rod under the projection of the anode body there is the pit of the rectangular cross section, in which the copper bush is placed. The pit height is no less than one third of the height of the current conducting cathode rod. Fixation of the copper bush in the pit is made from the side of the internal end of the cathode rod and in the lower part of the cathode rod by the welded steel plates. The technical result of the invention is provision of the more uniform distribution of the electric current flow on the hearth unit to decrease the speed of the cathode wear and to increase the MHD-stability of the electrolyzer especially at usage of the hearth blocks with the great contents of blacklead.
