FIELD: process for mounting cathode section of aluminum cell.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of placing steel cathode rod with copper insert in groove formed along the whole length of cathode block. Electrically conducting binder material is used for sealing due to stepwise lowering surface area of electric contact of side surfaces of groove of cathode block and cathode rod from mean part of cathode block length to its ends with use of continuously fed dozes of material. Then remaining gaps are sealed by means of electrically conducting material. It is possible to place two pairs of coaxial current-supply rods mutually spaced by gap filled with electrically conducting binder material and sub-layer of compressible material between them. Each electric current supply rod has length no more than length half of cathode block. It is also possible to place steel cathode rod whose cross surface area of said rod is equivalent to cross section area of rod with copper insert necessary for compensating voltage drop in cathode block. Invention provides significant equalizing of vertical current of cathode block.
EFFECT: lowered wear degree of cathode blocks, enhanced stability of cell especially with cathode blocks containing large amount of graphite.
