FIELD: production of aluminium by decomposition of cryolitealumina melts, applicable in assembly of the cathode device of the aluminium electrolyzer. SUBSTANCE: the method provides for installation of a current-conducting metal rod in the recess of the carbon unit on a layer of carbon-containing current-conducting material and filling of the gap between the recess side wall and the rod surface with carbon-containing current-conducting material to a height of 0.6 to 0.9 of the rod height. Filled with carbon-containing current-conducting material is the gap between the recess side wall and the rod surface to the part of the recess length, and the remaining part of the recess in height and the recess parts that are not filled with carbon-containing current-conducting material together with the current-conducting rods on the side of the sunk section and on the side of the cathode chutes are filled with refractory gas-permeable concrete. EFFECT: reduced expenditures connected with assembly of the cathode section, enhanced reliability of electromechanical contact between the current-conducting rod and the carbon unit, enhanced reliability of rod protection against contact with liquid metal, enhanced service life of the electrolyzer. 3 cl
