METHOD FOR DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSTICS OF ACUTE HEMATOGENIC OSTEOMYELITIS Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC A61B8/00 

FIELD: medicine, diagnostics.

SUBSTANCE: one should carry out ultrasound inspection followed by evaluation of echogeneity of soft tissues and periosteum, periosteal thickness, the presence of liquid subperiosteally, supraperiosteally. At decreased echogeneity of soft tissues, visualization of hypo- or anechogenic periosteum being of about 0.5-1.0 mm thickness, at no differentiation of hyperechogenic line of fascial sheath one should diagnose intramedullary phase of osteomyelitis in the stage of medullary phlegmon. At decreased echogeneity of soft tissues, increased periosteal echogeneity, at periosteal thickness being 0.5-1.0 mm and the presence of heterogeneous liquid subperiosteally one should diagnose extramedullary phase of osteomyelitis in the stage of subperiosteal abscess. In case of no visualization of periosteum, at visualization of bone-adjacent heterogeneous liquid in soft tissues one should diagnose extramedullary phase of osteomyelitis in the stage intermuscular phlegmon. The innovation enables to increase information value of differential diagnostics of acute hematogenic osteomyelitis.
