SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to children surgery and is intended for selection of approach to treatment of acute hematogenic osteomyelitis in newborns. Clinical and X-ray examination is carried out. Additionally ultrasonic examination of epiphyses of bones of affected and healthy extremities is performed. Ultrasonic scanning of epimetaphyseal zone of bone is performed by moving sensor around extremity axis. If presence of nidus of hyperechogenicity and heterogeneity of epiphysis structure is registered, pharmacotherapy is administered. If deformation of joint surface and change of epiphyseal cartilage, presence of effusion in joint and soft tissue edema are detected, joint puncture is administered. In case of joint capsule thickening, increase of echogenicity of intra-articular contents; if in addition to changed form of epiphyseal cartilage and deformation of joint surface presence of pus in joint cavity or beyond epiphysis limits is detected, combined surgical treatment, including joint puncture and drainage of soft tissues, is performed.

EFFECT: selection of approach to treatment of acute hematogenic osteomyelitis in newborns basing on comparative changes of epiphyses of bones of affected and healthy extremities, detected by means of ultrasonic examination.
