FIELD: induction heating of thin flat articles in electromagnetic field, in particular, heating of edges of thin 20-50 mm thick slabs and rolling strips.
SUBSTANCE: slit-type inductor has two spirals of inducing wire arranged in spaced apart relation at both sides of slit plane and electrically connected with one another. Axes of spirals of inducing wire are arranged in parallel with plane of slit and spiral cross-sectional plane is oriented perpendicular to plane of slit. Spiral coils may be oval-shaped, with elongated axis of ovals being oriented along plane of slit. Inductor may additionally comprise U-shaped magnetic circuit whose open sides are arranged within spirals of inducting wire. Such an inductor enables selective heating in longitudinal, transverse or mixed magnetic field by selecting switching or winding of coils, respectively.
EFFECT: increased efficiency by regulating heating process and simplified construction of slit-type inductor.
