FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanisms for converting movement of pistons of internal combustion engines. Proposed device contains straight-line shaft connected with piston by means of gear racks and gears freely rotating on shaft. Gears engage with shaft in turn by means of friction mechanism mounted on power shaft and coupled with shaft of means of splined joint. Piston stroke is determined by duration of fear-to-shaft engagement which makes it possible to adjust compression ratio. With friction device in neutral position, i.e. when both gears rotate freely, cylinder is disconnected from power shaft.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of engine operation.
