METHOD OF DISINFECTING WATER WITH HYDROGEN PEROXIDE Russian patent published in 2006 - IPC C02F1/50 C02F1/72 C02F103/04

Abstract RU 2288180 C1

FIELD: water treatment processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to technology of treating water with oxidants and can be used to disinfect drinking water, including that in water supply systems. Water disinfection process comprises treatment of water with hydrogen peroxide and heterogeneous catalyst containing hopcalite and silver. Required amount of hydrogen peroxide is added to water at one go, after which water is kept for 0.2-0.5 h and brought into contact for 0.5-1 h with pellets or granules of catalyst prepared according to (a) or (b) technology. According to (a) technology: pulverized hopcalite is moistened to pasty state using silver ion-containing aqueous solution, which is prepared by dissolving a silver salt in distilled water or by electrolytically dissolving silver metal under direct current action, hopcalite-to silver ion weight ratio being (1500-2000):1, whereupon paste is molded into pellets or granules. According to (a) technology: pellets or granules of hopcalite are placed into column, through which is passed silver ion-containing aqueous solution, which is prepared by dissolving a silver salt in distilled water or by electrolytically dissolving silver metal under direct current action, hopcalite-to silver ion weight ratio being (1500-2000):1. Above-mentioned silver salt is preferably silver nitrate, sulfate, or ammonium complex. Contact may be accomplished in column filled with heterogeneous catalyst, through which hydrogen peroxide-pretreated water is passed.

EFFECT: simplified water disinfection process and catalyst preparation technology, reduced silver dose involved, and prevented secondary bacterial contamination of water over a long (no less than 2 months) period of time.
