FIELD: water treatment processes.
SUBSTANCE: underground water designed for use in drinking water supply systems and containing simultaneously iron and manganese is supplemented at low temperature with hydrogen peroxide and then potassium permanganate in excess relative to its stoichiometric amount required to oxidize ferrous iron, provided that weight ratio of hydrogen peroxide to potassium permanganate is between 1:1 and 1:5, after which water is filtered.
EFFECT: reduced process expenses and amount of precipitate formed, and prolonged filtration cycle.
