FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method of control of internal combustion engine containing at least one combustion chamber, control unit determines beginning of idle running after which air is delivered into internal combustion engine through idling channel in which controllable idling valve is installed. Characteristic of engine showing relation between amount of fuel-air mixture to be combusted in combustion chamber for cleaning the spark plug, from initial temperature of coolant in internal combustion engine at idling, is entered into fixed storage device of engine control unit. At idling conditions, idling valve is opened completely, initial temperature of coolant at idling is measured and, basing on characteristics kept in fixed storage of engine control unit, amount of fuel-air mixture corresponding to initial temperature of coolant in internal combustion engine is determined. Then summary mass of fuel-air mixture delivered into internal combustion engine is calculated,, and when summary mass reaches definite value, idling valve is shifted to position providing operation of internal combustion engine at idling at speeds corresponding to current temperature of coolant.
EFFECT: provision of quick heating of spark plug installed in combustion chamber at idling to temperature providing self-cleaning of spark plug from carbon deposit.
