FIELD: working metals by cutting, turning lateral surfaces of shells of high-pressure drum type boilers and vessels of reactors of nuclear power plants.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of mounting and fastening cutter servo device carrying spring-loaded head movable relative to body of device. In spring-loaded head servo member and cutting tool arranged behind servo member in direction of feed are mounted. In order to remove defect-containing constant-thickness layer at desired roughness of working surface and providing simplified improved-efficiency process, operations for mounting worked part are realized in standard lathe. Surface is turned by means of two changeable cutting tool mounted in movable head of cutter servo device at opposite sides of its supporting member. Cutting edge of tool before supporting member is set in level of supporting surface of said member. Cutting edge of tool after supporting member is spaced outside its supporting surface by distance equal (according to first variant of invention) to maximum depth of irregularities of worked surface or to thickness half of defect layer to be removed from worked surface (according to second variant of invention). Then surface of part is worked along length 50 - 100 mm from initial edge and drives of actuating mechanisms are cut off. Cutter servo device is moved to initial position. According to first variant, cutting edge of tool after supporting member of cutter servo device in direction of working feed is shifted outside supporting surface by value equal to remained thickness of defect-containing metal layer to be removed from worked surface. According to second variant, position of said cutting edge is not changed. Then two cutters are used for simultaneously working part surface till interruption of contact of said surface with cutting edge of tool before supporting member of cutter servo device. Drives of actuating mechanisms are cut off and cutting tool behind supporting member of cutter servo device is shifted for returning it to end portion of part surface worked by means of shifted tool. Then working of end portion of part surface is completed by means of one cutting tool before supporting member of cutter servo device.

EFFECT: simplified high-efficiency method for working curvilinear elliptical surfaces.
