FIELD: manufacturing processes in machine engineering, possibly surface hardening of working surfaces subjected to intensified wear, of steel and cast iron parts.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of imparting rotation to blank, imparting to tool provided with friction disc mounted on individual drive shaft rotation, feed motion along worked surface of blank and cross feed motion. Tool is forced to blank at constant effort Pf. Friction disc is made of material with low heat conductivity factor and it has working surface on its periphery. Friction disc is mounted in individual drive shaft between two flanges with use of elastic member. Constant effort Pf is created by means of hydraulic cylinder whose body is joined with tool. Effort Pf is balanced by effort Pr having the same value and applied to rest with supporting roller by means of piston of hydraulic cylinder. Friction disc and rest are mounted diametrically opposite relative to cross plane of blank. Supporting roller has height no less than two pitches of hardened surface of screw.

EFFECT: enlarged manufacturing possibilities, improved quality and accuracy of hardened surface.
