FIELD: process engineering.

SUBSTANCE: workpiece revolves with hardening device being pressed to workpiece surface and translates along the revolving workpiece axis. Hardening device comprises fixed base, movable casing, shaft running in casing bearings, flexible element arranged between the base and casing and deforming element fitted on the shaft and representing a helical spring made from pipe. Pipe walls can be elastically deformed. The shaft features helical groove with profile similar to that of helical spring coil inner surface and has spring coils rigidly attached thereto. Spring pipe features outer surface radius R>1.7H, where H is the height of the profile of screw being hardened.

EFFECT: expanded performances, higher efficiency, lower costs.
