FIELD: fire prevention, containment or extinguishing specially adapted for area conflagrations, particularly peat fires.

SUBSTANCE: method involves creating fire barriers around most fire-hazardous areas before fire occurrence and during peat burning. The barrier comprises mixture of grinded carbonate containing and opal-cristobalite rocks taken in proportion of 2:1. Carbonate containing rock comprises silicon oxide and/or calcium carbonate in sum of not less than 90%. Opal-cristobalite rock includes at least 80% of silicon oxide. Clay minerals in amount of 7% and sodium fluorsilicate in amount of 3% are added to main mixture to complete thereof to 100%. Magnesite, dolomite and limestone may be used as the carbonate containing rock. Rotten-stone, gaize and diatomite may be used as the opal-cristobalite rock. As fire approaches trench mineral material heats up and decomposes along with gaseous carbon dioxide emission. Gaseous carbon dioxide mixes with air to reduce oxygen content in air. Magnesium and calcium oxides interact with amorphous silicon oxide and above additives to create heat-resistant compositions, which form porous barrier, which restrains fire spread outside the barrier.

EFFECT: increased efficiency, reduced costs of fire suppression and possibility to maintain peat deposit capabilities.
