FIELD: measuring technique.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises using main acoustical base provided between two accessible opposite sections of the pipeline and additional acoustic base having a given length in the accessible rectilinear section of feeding circuit of the pipeline. The velocity of propagation of acoustic signal in water is determined using the additional base, then the flow of water stops, the time of propagation of the signal excited in the range of frequencies from 30 to 100 kHz is measured using the main base, and, with regard to the velocity of propagation of the signal in water determined in advance, the length of the main base is measured. The water is again caused to flow in the pipeline, and the time of propagation of the same signal counterflow in the main base is measured. The difference between the time intervals and the length of the main base give velocity of the flow that is then used for determining the flow rate of water for a given time interval.
EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of measurements.
