FIELD: paper-and-pulp industry.
SUBSTANCE: novel powdered water-soluble cellulose derivative is composed of particles less than 15 μm in size (<20%), particles less than 10 μm in size (<10%), and particles less than 5 μm in size (<2%). Preparation method comprises following stages: (i) cellulose derivative is subjected to swelling or diluted in water taken in amount 50 to 80% based on the total weight, and immediately after that (ii) water contained in swelled or dissolved cellulose derivative is transferred into vapor phase on high-speed shock-and-reflection mill with the aid of gas stream formed by overheated steam/inert gas mixture or steam/air mixture with 40-99% steam, while dissolved or swelled cellulose derivative is transferred into solid form, namely into form of superfine particles, (iii) the latter are separated from gas stream and, if necessary, (iv) dried.
EFFECT: achieved desired degree of polymerization, enabled preparation of not horny product, and increased apparent density of product.
