FIELD: measurement technology; in-service measurements of piston engine parameters illustrating pressure within its cylinders.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method and device are used to indirectly evaluate parameters of indicating diagrams of cylinders and other characteristics of internal-combustion engine and its component parts dispensing with disassembling-reassembling operations by executing a number of measuring and computing operations under various operating conditions of engine to detect variations in its structural parameters causing changes in functional characteristics of engine and its components (trouble confinement). Proposed method and expert system for evaluating technical condition of engine and its components can be used for investigating engine operating process and automating control over this process, as well as for inspecting engine and its components for condition in the course of manufacture and in service at pre-training of expert system. Proposed method and expert system make it possible to easily obtain expert conclusion on condition of engine and its components. Expert system affords in-service measurements, processing, and recording of large data arrays in the form of sequentially alternating indicating diagrams of pressures, amplitude-frequency response and phase-frequency response characteristics, as well as spectrums of engine and its components using various physical processes and computerized visualization of intermediate and resultant data, as well as display of processing results on any output device. Unlimited-capacity data bases and knowledge bases are produced to enable designers, research engineers, investigators, diagnosticians, and operating personnel to conduct unbiased inspections of internal combustion engine and its components.
EFFECT: facilitated procedure, reduced labor consumption.
