FIELD: machine engineering; working metals by cutting.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of imparting to tool such as cutter rotation cutting motion, reciprocation feed motion and radial motion according to predetermined law by means of contour follower; basing tool through transmission link in the form of lever on surface of contour follower; in order to enlarge manufacturing possibilities imparting to contour follower rotation motion kinematically coupled with rotation motion of tool; radially moving tool relative to rotation axis according to given law. Apparatus for performing the method includes housing; contour follower; shaft supporting lever with probe; tool that through lever and probe is joined with contour follower whose working surface is in the form of flat surface inclined relative to rotation axis of tool. Contour follower is mounted with possibility of rotation in different directions. Tool supporting shaft and contour follower are mutually joined through reduction gear whose inlet gear wheel is mounted on shaft and whose outlet gear wheel is rigidly coupled with contour follower.
EFFECT: enlarged manufacturing possibilities.
