FIELD: metallurgy, namely methods for vacuum electric arc welding of highly reactive metals such as titanium and its alloys.
SUBSTANCE: process for controlling centering and tack welding of consumable electrode is realized due to measuring magnetic field intensity of short circuiting electric current in system electrode-crystallizer and comparing measurement results with threshold value of magnetic field intensity determined at maximally admissible value of electrode axis shifting. Process for controlling centering of electrode is realized due to measuring change of magnetic field intensity in two zones arranged along axis of crystallizer and mutually spaced by distance no less than half of electrode length. Lower zone is arranged higher than lower end of electrode and it is shifted from it by distance equal to electrode diameter or exceeding it.
EFFECT: lowered labor consumption, improved accuracy and explosion safety of furnace loading operations at process of metal ingots refining.
