FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for melting of ingots from high-melting high-reactivity metals and alloys, and mainly titanium, which are used in aerospace equipment and ship building. As per the proposed method, an ingot with a shank is formed on a bottom end face in the form of a right flattened cone in the cavity, the half of which is formed with an inner cavity made on working surface of an insert arranged in a central hole of working surface of a tray, and the second half of the cavity is formed with inner cavity of a removable mould. A reverse side of the insert is made in the form of a conical projection that is similar as to shape and dimensions to a clip of an electrode holder of a vacuum arc furnace. Consumed cinder of the electrode ingot is removed from the insert and removable mould and used in charge at remelting in a vacuum arc skull furnace.
EFFECT: inventions allow producing an electrode ingot with a defect-free shank in the bottom part, which is homogeneous as to chemical composition, owing to reducing labour intensity and increasing metal yield.
