FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method involves obtaining of molten metal during the first remelting in skull furnace and formation of electrode ingot from it, which consists of cylindrical part and shank at bottom part, for further remelting in vacuum arc furnace. Formation of shank made in the form of a flattened cone the smaller base of which faces the cylindrical part of ingot is performed by means of detachable mould installed in central cavity of casting form tray. Device includes casting form tray of skull furnace with central cavity made on upper working surface of the tray. In addition, tray is equipped with detachable mould installed in central cavity and made in the form of annular sections forming an inner conical cavity. Conical surface of cavity of detachable mould is adjacent to external conical surface of shank of cast electrode ingot.
EFFECT: invention allows reducing the manufacturing costs of electrode ingots owing to reducing the labour intensity and increasing the metal yield.
