FIELD: manufacture of cast products.

SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of pouring melt metal into casting mold; suspending electrode spaced by some distance from surface of melt metal; supplying electric current to suspended electrode for forming electric arc between electrode and upper surface of melt metal; agitating melt metal by moving electric arc on upper surface of melt metal being solidified. Apparatus including at least one electrode for forming electric arc over upper surface of cast metallic product; frame for suspending electrode over upper surface of cast piece and second electrode in the form of liquid metal in casting mold for creating electric arc. Electric circuit includes electric arc and regulators connected with device for monitoring parameters of electric arc and technological process. Electrode for forming electric arc may be hollow one. Said apparatus may include in addition pipeline and regulating members for guiding flow of inert gas through center of electrode along upper surface of cast piece in order to protect it against oxidation and to remove molding powder from surface of cast piece. In variant electrode for creating moving electric arc may be in the form of cutter and it may be provided with system of windings creating magnetic field providing intensive motion of electric arcs ignited in one end of electrode to other end of said electrode. In order to provide creation of separate electric arc apparatus may be provided with large number of electrodes.

EFFECT: improved quality of castings due to elimination of shrinkage holes, reduced porosity and improved structure of grains.
