FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used for casting of active metal. A thin ingot of active metal is cast in an induction melting furnace with a copper crucible with water cooling by releasing the melt from the outlet hole provided in the crucible base section into a casting mould. Casting is performed under conditions, in which ingot has diameter (D) of at least 10 mm, ratio (H/D) of height H of ingot to diameter D of ingot is at least 1.5, and weight of produced melt is not more than 200 kg, wherein molten metal temperature during casting is set higher than melting point of active metal, and casting is performed at control of casting speed V (mm/s) into mould by adjusting diameter of outlet hole so that ratio with height H of ingot satisfies condition V ≤ 0.1H.
EFFECT: invention enables to perform hard solidification of the ingot from the bottom in the mould, reduce the shrinkage cavity in the metal ingot and improve the yield of the defect-free product.
