FIELD: technical physics, in particular, refractometer devices, meant for measuring refraction coefficient and other related parameters of solid and liquid substances.
SUBSTANCE: refractometer contains measuring prism, reflecting device, diaphragm, and objective, mounted in focal plane of which is device for determining shifting of light and shadow limit. Located between measuring prism and substance being studied is wedge of transparent substance, refraction coefficient of which exceeds maximal refraction coefficient of substance being studied and exceeds refraction coefficient of measuring prism material, its main cross-section coincides with light fall plane, thick edge is positioned on the side of light fall, and wedge angle satisfies a certain condition. Measuring prism may be made of liquid, which is held by means of glass plate and amounts to angle of 90 deg. with plane of contact of wedge and liquid of measuring prism.
EFFECT: increased precision of measurements and lower requirements to temperature control.
