FIELD: organic synthesis.
SUBSTANCE: invention provides method for preparing high optical-purity 2(R)-2-propyloctanoic acid used for pharmaceuticals and consists in that (2S)-2-(2-propynyl)octanoic acid or (2S)-2-(2-propenyl)octanoic acid is reduced in organic solvent under hydrogen atmosphere at 0-60°C using carbon-supported platinum. Invention also relates to product containing 97.14-99.4% of 2(R)-2-propyloctanoic acid ethyl ester mixed with 2(S)-2-propyloctanoic acid and to product containing optical-purity 2(R)-2-propyloctanoic acid, at least 97.14% ethyl ester, and 2(S)-2-propyloctanoic acid - the rest.
EFFECT: improved optical purities of products.
