FIELD: grouping of multimedia files, possible use during stream transmission of multimedia data.

SUBSTANCE: in accordance to method, video frames are encoded to form scalable compressed video series, containing video frames, encoded in accordance to first and second frame formats. Video frames of first frames format are independent video frames, while video frames of second format of frames are predicted on basis of one of a set of other video frames. Video series has first sub-series, determined in it, while a part of first sub-series is formed by encoding video-frames of first frame format; and also second sub-series, part of which is formed by encoding video-frames of second frames format, and one video-frame of second sub-series is predicted on basis of one of video frames of first sub-series. Frame identifier data from second sub-series are determined in video series.

EFFECT: decreased disadvantages, resulting from problems occurring during standard image selection, notification containing value of P-frames, control over scalability, insertion of video series in the middle of another video series.
